SWAGA Chiefs: ‘We Want Tinubu, Oyebanji Back in Office – No Ifs, No Buts.
Supporters who helped bring Tinubu to power in 2023 are now regrouping, this time with a clear two-step mission: keep Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji in office this June, and then hand President Bola Tinubu a second term in 2027.
On Wednesday, leaders of the Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (SWAGA) gathered in Ado Ekiti to launch what they’re calling “SWAGA 2.0.” Their message was blunt and upbeat all at once.
The game plan?
First, deliver Ekiti State for Oyebanji in the June 20, 2026 governorship election. Then pivot fully to Tinubu’s re-election in the January 16, 2027 presidential poll.
“What we’re working toward is the margin of victory,” a SWAGA leader told the crowd. “We’ve set a target of 500,000 votes for the governor – but honestly, we think we can blow past that.”
‘Tinubu Has Not Disappointed Us’
Oyetunde Ojo, SWAGA’s convener and Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, reminded everyone why the group started in the first place.
“Back in 2020, we believed Tinubu could pull Nigeria out of trouble. Today? He hasn’t disappointed. That’s why we’re here saying: continuity is the best path forward.”
He added that Ekiti’s election isn’t just about Ekiti. “Your votes here on June 20 will directly strengthen the President’s position in January. In presidential elections, every cumulative vote counts.”
‘There’s Never Been a Better Time to Be a Governor’
Governor Oyebanji himself showed up – cancelling a campaign event to be there – and didn’t hold back his praise for Tinubu.
“There’s no president who has been this fair to Ekiti people,” he said. “We finished our airport because of his support. Everything we’ve achieved in three years and seven months? After God, the credit goes to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.”
His argument was simple: more time equals more results.
“If we’ve done this much in under four years, imagine what eight years will look like. And imagine what Tinubu will do for Nigeria with eight years. He’s the only president who has aligned economic growth with real development.”
‘Don’t Be Complacent – Bring Three to Five Voters With You’
The governor warned against overconfidence – a common pitfall in Nigerian politics.
“On election day, don’t go to the polling unit alone. Take at least three to five registered voters with you. That’s how we hit our targets.”
Former Ekiti governor Segun Oni, also at the event, was equally bullish. “The wind of change is blowing. Globally, expectations about Nigeria are rising again. Across Africa, people are starting to believe in this country once more.”
What’s Next?
For now, SWAGA’s slogan is simple: Support the governor. After June 20, it switches to Re-elect the President.
Their minimum target in Ekiti for Oyebanji is 500,000 votes. For Tinubu in 2027? They’re already dreaming of 700,000 from the same state.
“That small project we started in 2020,” Oyebanji said, “has now become an iroko tree under which we all find shelter.”
