Shettima Submits Tinubu’s APC Nomination Forms for 2027 Re-Election Bid
Vice President Kashim Shettima has officially submitted the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The submission formally signals President Tinubu’s intention to seek a second term in office under the APC platform.
Shettima submitted the nomination documents on Thursday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where senior APC leaders and political stakeholders gathered for the exercise.
According to a statement shared by the Vice President’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima was received by several prominent party officials, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, governors, and other top party figures.
The statement described Shettima as a loyal deputy whose partnership and support for President Tinubu have been publicly acknowledged within the administration.
Party officials present at the event viewed the submission as the formal beginning of Tinubu’s campaign for another four-year term in office.
President Tinubu and Shettima won the 2023 presidential election with more than eight million votes, defeating opposition candidates to secure victory for the APC.
The APC has already begun internal preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several aspirants for different political offices purchasing and submitting nomination forms across the country.
Tinubu’s anticipated re-election campaign is expected to focus on defending his administration’s policies, economic reforms, infrastructure projects, and governance record since assuming office in 2023.
The submission of nomination forms comes amid increasing political activity across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political parties have intensified consultations, endorsements, and strategic alignments as politicians position themselves for key contests at the presidential, governorship, and legislative levels.
Tinubu’s administration has faced mixed reactions over economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange adjustments, and inflation challenges. Supporters argue the policies are necessary for long-term economic stability, while critics continue to raise concerns over rising living costs and economic hardship.
Within the APC, party leaders have continued to publicly express support for Tinubu’s re-election ambition, presenting him as the party’s preferred candidate for continuity and stability.
The role played by Shettima in submitting the forms also reinforces the political alliance between both leaders as preparations for the 2027 campaign season gradually intensify.
The formal submission of President Tinubu’s nomination forms by Vice President Shettima marks the official start of the president’s bid for re-election in 2027.
With growing endorsements from APC stakeholders and early mobilisation within the ruling party, Tinubu is expected to remain a central figure in Nigeria’s political landscape as the country moves closer to another election cycle.
