A Community Comes Together: How One Man’s Generosity Transformed a Local Health Centre.

For years, the Samaru Primary Healthcare Centre in Kaduna State was a place of anxiety for patients. Crowded hallways, long wait times, and limited space made routine check-ups and emergencies stressful. But today, the story is different. Thanks to a generous donation of ₦44 million from a community son, the health centre has been completely transformed.

Now, instead of spending hours waiting, patients like Amina a young mother attending antenatal care can receive attention faster and in a more comfortable environment. “Before now, it was always overcrowded,” she shares. “Today, it feels like a different place.”

The expansion includes more consultation rooms, smoother patient flow, and even enough capacity to open the facility 24/7 a game changer for pregnant women, children, and those in need of emergency care.

The community’s Ward Development Committee led the charge, and the chairman, Hassan Mohammed, notes that attendance has jumped by 80% since the renovation. “The trust is back,” he says. “People now believe they’ll get the care they deserve.”

Still, there’s more work to be done. While a plot of land has been donated to build staff quarters, funds are needed to finish the project. The hope is that government and partners will step in to complete it.

The message is clear: when people take ownership of their health centres, lasting change is possible. Samaru PHC is proof that community unity, backed by private giving, can make healthcare accessible, dignified, and efficient for everyone.
