Tinubu Touches Down in Nairobi for Africa-France Summit.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, late last night ahead of the Africa-France Summit, which kicks off today and runs through tomorrow.

His plane landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport just after midnight (12:15 a.m. local time), where he was received by a mix of Nigerian and Kenyan government officials.

Among those on hand to welcome him were Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele; Minister of Trade, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal; and the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari. Also present were Foreign Minister Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, her counterpart for State Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaye, presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, and Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Ambassador Ayodele Oke.

President Tinubu is in Nairobi to take part in the summit, which is being co-hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenya’s President William Ruto. The theme, “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth,” will focus on major continental issues like energy transition, green industrialization, digital transformation, climate action, and reforming global financial systems.

His attendance is meant to highlight Nigeria’s commitment to building stronger strategic ties with both France and other African nations, while also showcasing his administration’s economic reforms aimed at making Nigeria a top investment destination.

This stop in Kenya is part of a three-nation diplomatic tour that started Sunday when Tinubu left Abuja for France. He’s also scheduled to visit Rwanda. (He left Abuja on May 3.)

After wrapping up in Nairobi, the President will head to Kigali, Rwanda, for the Africa CEO Forum running from May 14 to 15. That event, themed “Scale or Fail,” is one of Africa’s largest gatherings of business leaders, investors, and policymakers—over 2,000 participants are expected to discuss regional integration and cross-border investments to speed up economic transformation.

Alongside the multilateral meetings, Tinubu is also expected to hold high-level talks with global and African business leaders before heading back to Nigeria at the end of the Rwanda leg.
