“No More Backroom Deals”: Abia APC Leaders Promise Open Primaries for 2027 Elections.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided that for the 2027 general elections, party candidates will be chosen through direct primaries — meaning every registered party member gets to vote.

State Chairman Chijioke Chukwu broke the news at a stakeholders’ gathering in Umuahia, assuring party faithful that the process for all elective positions would be transparent and fair. In his words, the party has “no excuse” not to win the governorship and legislative seats across the state.

The screening process for aspirants is already underway: 24 candidates were cleared for House of Representatives seats, while 63 out of 64 House of Assembly hopefuls got the nod.

Big names at the meeting included Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
