LASU Crowned Nigeria’s Top Choice University for Second Straight Year with Massive 84,000+ Applications.
In a remarkable show of growing popularity, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has once again emerged as Nigeria’s most subscribed university for the second consecutive year.
According to the latest figures released by JAMB, LASU attracted a whopping 84,326 first-choice applications, comfortably beating the University of Lagos (UNILAG) which got 78,240 applications and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) with 60,370.
This latest achievement cements LASU’s rapid transformation into one of the country’s most sought-after institutions. Just a few years ago, the university was outside the top 10. It climbed to 3rd place in 2023 with over 55,000 applicants, moved to 2nd in 2024 with 62,601, took the top spot in 2025 with over 70,000, and has now set a new record with 84,326 applications in 2026.
In a statement, LASU attributed the surge to increased confidence from students and parents in its academic quality, stable environment, modern infrastructure, digital innovation, and student-centered leadership.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its continued support. She described the feat as validation of the university’s vision to become a globally competitive institution driven by excellence, innovation, and impactful research.
Prof. Olatunji-Bello assured prospective students that LASU remains committed to delivering quality education, industry-relevant programmes, and a supportive environment that prepares graduates for success in today’s world.
