Desmond Elliot Apologizes to Femi Gbajabiamila: “I’m Sorry, My Daddy, If I’ve Offended You”

Desmond Elliot, the Lagos lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I, has publicly apologized to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, admitting that any tension between them likely came from political misunderstandings.

The actor turned politician appeared on TVC’s Your View on Friday, where he made it clear he never meant any disrespect. He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and his commitment to developing his constituency.

Elliot shared that he entered politics under Gbajabiamila’s mentorship, referring to him as his “egbon” (senior brother). He said that while misunderstandings happen, they shouldn’t be mistaken for bad blood.

“I’m not saying, oh yes, the media will come out and say ‘Desmond begs again.’ Yes, because he’s my egbon. I learned everything I know in politics through him,” Elliot said.

He added that mistakes are part of any relationship, especially in politics. “To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way.”

Elliot also extended an apology to someone he called the “matriarch of Surulere,” saying, “Mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you.”

The apology follows a recent revelation by Gbajabiamila, who claimed he nearly lost his job because of Elliot’s role in the Lagos Assembly leadership crisis. In a viral video, Gbajabiamila told APC members that President Bola Tinubu had called him during the impeachment saga involving former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. The President reportedly said Desmond was among those causing problems and instructed Gbajabiamila to warn him.

Gbajabiamila initially defended Elliot, telling the President he didn’t believe the lawmaker was involved even without confirming with him. But later, Gbajabiamila said Elliot “started cutting corners.” Three days after that, his name was being dragged in, with claims that he was backing Desmond’s actions.

“Of course, the president will not believe Desmond would do such a thing, and I would not know,” Gbajabiamila had said.

With Friday’s public apology, Elliot appears to be making amends and clearing the air.
