Chaos Near FUTO Community as Night Attack Sparks Heavy Security Response
Panic gripped parts of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) community following a reported night incident involving armed men along the Eziobodo–Ihiagwa axis in Imo State.
According to eyewitness accounts and early reports from the area, the incident occurred late at night when armed individuals allegedly attempted an operation believed to be an abduction attempt. The situation quickly escalated after they were confronted by security operatives and local vigilante groups stationed around the area.
Residents reported hearing gunshots, which triggered widespread panic and forced people in nearby communities to seek safety. Movement along the affected route was temporarily disrupted as the confrontation unfolded.
Although details remain unclear, some reports suggest that individuals may have sustained injuries during the exchange. However, authorities are yet to release an official statement confirming the number of casualties or the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the disturbance, security presence in and around the FUTO axis was reportedly increased to restore order and prevent further escalation. Normal activities gradually resumed, but tension remained in parts of the surrounding communities.
At the time of filing this report, security agencies are expected to continue investigations to determine the identities and motives of the armed men involved.
