Nigeria has made a powerful statement at the 2026 Confederation of African Cycling Para-Track and Track African Championships, held right on home soil in Abuja. According to PUNCH Sports Extra, the country has so far scooped a total of 16 medals.

The event took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, drawing top cyclists from across Africa, including Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria, and the host nation, Nigeria.

After two days of intense racing, Nigeria sits proudly at the top of the medals table with nine golds, five silvers, and two bronzes. That puts them ahead of several of the continent’s traditional cycling powerhouses.

Right behind them is Egypt, holding second place with 14 medals, while Kenya follows in third with nine. South Africa and Algeria round out the top five.

The home crowd at the velodrome has been electric, cheering on Nigerian riders who’ve shown impressive speed, stamina, and technical skill. Beyond the medals, many have also praised the quality of the Abuja velodrome, calling it a world-class venue for continental competition.

This isn’t Nigeria’s first time hosting they also welcomed the championships in 2021 and 2023, steadily building their reputation as a key hub for African cycling. This year’s edition brought together over 100 cyclists from eight countries, all battling for medals, ranking points, and continental pride.
