17 Police Officers Killed in Terror Attack on Army School in Yobe.
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that 17 police officers were killed in a terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Yobe State. The attack happened in the early hours of May 8, 2026.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the officers were at the school for specialized training when the terrorists launched a well coordinated attack from different directions around 1:15 am. Several brave soldiers from the Nigerian Army also lost their lives while fighting back.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the fallen officers as courageous and patriotic. He said they were committed to protecting the nation and were undergoing advanced counter terrorism training. The IGP sent his condolences to their families and promised that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, visited the school on behalf of the IGP. He met with the school’s Commandant, Brigadier General A.C. Enuagu, and other military and police personnel. He encouraged the surviving trainees to stay strong and complete their training in honor of their fallen colleagues.
The IGP assured Nigerians that the police, military, and other security agencies will work together to bring the attackers to justice. He said the nation will always remember the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen officers.
